The Long and Cruel Journey of Animals in Mexico

For the first time, Animal Equality in Mexico has documented the cruel journey of animals during transport to farms and slaughterhouses. This new investigation shows pigs, cows and chickens during loading, transport and unloading. During each stage, the animals are abused and mistreated during a harrowing journey, overcrowded onto trucks as they travel long distances without food or water. Sick, injured and pregnant animals are not immune from this same treatment.

The footage from this investigation was captured between 2016 and 2018 by Animal Equality investigators in Mexico. The findings reveal serious violations of the Mexican Official Standard, which is meant to reduce the suffering of animals during transport. Unfortunately, these standards are rarely enforced.

In the United States, animals suffer similar harrowing journeys. Because of the extreme conditions, nearly 5 million chickens, cows and pigs die before reaching the slaughterhouse.
