Horses barrier fear – Taranaki Races 22 12 21

Horses’ expressions of defiance happen all day at any given racetrack. Most don’t get a mention. The barriers are a common place for such defiance.

Horses don’t like confined spaces and have to be trained/coerced to go in because it goes against all their natural instincts. Some horses are rejected from racing simply because they can’t be made to go into the barriers.

This is what that looked like for unraced three year old filly A Little Bit Bossy at New Plymouth Racecourse, Taranaki New Zealand.

Thank you to CPR New Zealand and our partners at Taranaki Animal Save for being there.

For examples of just how common such fear is inside the barriers, read our article 👉horseracingkills.com/2021/04/09/barrier-behaviour/
