Horsemeat from torturous production: slaughterhouse Lamar, Argentina

Since 2012 we have been investigating the Lamar slaughterhouse in Argentina. Sick, weak and injured horses are still being delivered to Lamar after long torturous transports. In the slaughterhouse pens the horses are left to their own devices. Horses are dying without assistance, wounds are left untreated. The handling of the horses is brutal: they are beaten, kicked and tortured with electric prods. Lamar is still on the list of EU-approved slaughterhouses to this day, despite the fact that our research clearly shows that the applicable EU animal welfare regulations are not respected. It is time to end horse meat imports from Argentina to Europe and Switzerland.
