Carden Circus Elephants Have All But Given Up

While wild elephants use their powerful trunks and expressive ears to communicate with each other and interact with their environment, elderly circus elephants Betty and Janice have had these vital expressions almost entirely stifled through decades of painful human domination by the Carden Circus. A witness documented the elephants at a show in early April, where Betty struggled to walk and perform tricks and stood despondently with a dropping trunk, and Janice swayed constantly from side to side backstage, expressing her deep psychological distress.
