The slaughter should mark the end of the animals’ long suffering. But the agony does not end there. Animals do not die instantly after having their throats cut. For cows, for example, after slaughter, they cut off their feet, disembowel them and remove their internal organs. In some slaughterhouses, the cows are alive when they are dismembered and disembowelled.

These images are part of an investigation carried out in more than 50 slaughterhouses in Mexico between 2015 and 2017.
