Eläinten olot olivat luomuvaatimuksista huolimatta ankeat ja ahtaat. Osalla eläimistä oli pääsy virikkeettömään ulkoaitaukseen. Tilan sioilla oli poikkeuksellisen paljon osin tai kokonaan purtuja häntiä. Osa hännistä oli verisiä. Osa vammautuneista eläimistä oli eristetty ahtaisiin karsinoihin, osa oli muiden joukossa.

Hännänpurenta on häiriökäyttäytymistä, jota pidetään merkkinä stressistä ja tekemisen puutteesta. Uhriksi joutuneelle sialle hännänpurenta aiheuttaa akuuttia kipua ja kroonista stressiä.

Narunpätkät tai lattiankuivike eivät riitä tekemiseksi psyykeltään monimuotoisille sioille. Eläimille aiheuttaa eniten ahdistusta se, etteivät ne voi ahtaissa karsinoissa vaikuttaa omaan elämäänsä juuri lainkaan – ne eivät voi paeta, eivät hakeutua viileään tai lämpimään eivätkä ylipäätään tehdä juuri mitään.

Eläimen kannalta luomutuotannon muutama kymmenen neliösenttiä enemmän ei ole kovin merkittävä parannus.
