What is Foie Gras?

Every year millions of ducks and geese suffer a cruel and painful fate to become the delicacy known as foie gras. Confined in tiny cages, these birds are force-fed several times a day in a process called gavage in which a metal tube is violently rammed into their throats, forcing them to swallow a thick corn porridge. This brutal feeding method often causes painful injuries in the bird’s throat and inner organs, and as a result, the animals’ livers swell to 10 times their normal weight. This diseased fatty organ is sold worldwide as foie gras.
