How Much for the Cashmere? Too Much

No sweater should cost an animal their life. PETA’s new ad shows a shopper having an “aha!” moment with one of the victims of the cruel cashmere industry and calls on consumers to consider the true cost of buying the fiber.

Investigations by PETA Asia have exposed the lies behind so-called “sustainable” and “responsible” cashmere. Workers violently rip out goats’ hair with sharp metal combs—sometimes ripping away skin along with the hair. Once the goats no longer produce enough cashmere, they’re hit over the head with a hammer and their throats are slit. There are countless cozy, animal-free alternatives for shoppers that don’t require goats to die.
