In this video a hopeless moon bear is sedated in order that his bile can be extracted for its main active ingredient: ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), prized in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) . After the bear is sedated, a rudimentary CT scanner is used to locate the gallbladder, where the bile is stored. When located, the poacher implants a tube for extraction.
