30 Years After PETA Exposed Cosmetics-Testing Lab, Here’s How Far We’ve Come

In 1988, PETA conducted an eyewitness investigation of animal-testing laboratory Biosearch. The horrific video footage showed how animals suffer and die behind closed laboratory doors during tests for cosmetics and household products. Outraged consumers demanded change. Now, just 30 years later, we’ve made monumental progress. [link to new blog on this anniversary] Through PETA campaigns and consumer pressure, the number of cruelty-free companies in our Beauty Without Bunnies database—which has become the international gold standard for cruelty-free certification—has increased from nine to more than 3,600, and we continue to add more every day. Together, we’ve spared millions of animals painful and deadly experiments all over the world.
